About Southrun
Southrun was originally created by Craig Diment, Southrun born from a first run around Brecon with Elise 111s owner Simon Mawer. Simon has since moved to Spain and is enjoying the Elise in the sun. Since then, with the help of Craig Tomes during Southrun II and onwards, the events have grown and so has the web site.
I aim to provide everything that can help the Lotus car owner get the best from their Sports car. Southrun is independently owned and run by myself with my own time and money, it has no business relation with the factory, Lotus Cars Plc.

There hasn't been a run event for quite a long time, will there be another?The Southrun drive events ended when Craig D decided to take a break from Event organisation and for other personal reasons. There may be a reunion type run in the future.
I have some of the Southrun T-Shirts. Which is the rarest?
All Southrun T-Shirts were limited runs for each event. The most ever produced was for Southrun Four, Sidewinder during Season One. This is the t-shirt with the sponsorship web addresses and the split vertical bar photos. The rarest of the t-shirts are probably Southrun Seven, The Limit from Season One. A midnight blue t-shirt with four polaroid pictures on the front, which we had quality issues with a couple, but quite a few remain with those who bought them. Probably the rarest would be the Southrun Haunted t-shirt of which only two exist and an unreleased t-shirt from Sidewinder Part II.
What was the Southrun Charity event?
During one run that started in Monmouth, we held a raffle for any amount of donation. The prize was a bottle of Champaign. Everyone gave generously for which I thank them deeply. The money raised was donated to Cancer Research UK.

Where are all the Southrun Videos?
A few years ago we had to downgrade the quantity of storage and bandwidth and so the videos were removed. We hope to bring some back soon via YouTube once we have finalised sound track copyright issues.
Have there been any crashes on a Southrun Event, what was the story with the Police speed trap?
There have never been any crashes on any Southrun Event. The nearest was a bumper knock in a car park between an Elise and a Caterham. The scratches were polished out and the issue resolved amicably. The police speed trap story started when Wiltshire police e-mailed the Southrun organiser Craig D asking if Southrun had anything to do with a long convoy of Lotus cars in Wiltshire that passed through a speed trap. Around nine were identified for speeding, around six were sent speeding tickets. The event in question was not linked to Southrun in anyway and was organised by a group in the South West of England.
Has Southrun ever teamed up with another run event?
Yes, Southrun teamed up with Burt's Bristol Run on one occasion and once for the British half of Stelvio Run. Stelvio run started by a lap of Goodwood Race Circuit and straight out onto the open road to the South coast. Southrun was also involved in Welsh Run from Cardiff to Cardigan in West Wales.
Which was first, Fish and Chip Run or Southrun?
Fish and Chip Run was by far before Southrun and already successful and popular. Southrun was intended to cater more for owners from the west of the UK who were unable to travel the distance for the F&C run. Andy Ballingall later decided to drop the F&C run after many organised runs. There was the idea of a combined run on occasion but this never came to fruition.
Why didn't Southrun take over F&C run?
Andy and I spoke a few times over e-mail about the possibility when he decided to take a break from F&C. As the Southrun organiser I felt that the two sites could not be merged without spoiling either, I also did not have the time to run both clubs separately and felt I could not give the great F&C Run the justice it deserved. Andy also felt that it was time to allow the F&C run web site to gradually fade away. Although the idea came close to happening, we both decided it was for the best it didn't happen.

What links does Southrun have with the club Seloc?
There are no real ties with Seloc other than Paul Golding. A while before Paul had set up SELOC, he sponsored a mass of t-shirts for one of the Southrun events. Every t-shirt was given away for free. This event was also our largest turnout. Without Paul Southrun t-shirts would never have started.
Does Southrun have any link to Lotus Cars Limited or Group Lotus?
We registered with Lotus PR for use of their material. Lotus also update our 'official dealer badges' in the dealer reviews pages when dealer contracts change or when address details change.
Southrun Press Releases
The website has under gone another fresh look for 2005. The
whole web site has been rewritten in XHTML code to provide
a quicker downloading website and to allow font size changes
for the hard of seeing. I hope you like the new look
e-magazine.

The web site has now moved to a new server
provider with the biggest reprogramming project since the last
redesign of the site. For the technically minded out there, the
site has been ported from a Linux based ASP to the language PHP,
which will increase the speed of the web site. To celebrate the
big conversion project, the site has been given a fresh lick of
paint with the new colour scheme to make the site easier to
read.

The web site has now grown a huge amount
this year, including the new successful dealer reviews section,
allowing customers of official dealers, independent specialists
and other sports car related businesses to review in their own
words and rate dealers. A very revealing account of over 120
businesses already.
15th Dec 2003
Southrun E-Magazine has been redesigned and
is now in it's 4th generation. The web site has seen 5 events
over the past two years and another in the planning stage for
June. With the summer coming and the older white design
starting to look cluttered, it was time to clean up the web
site. The redesign has taken four days to design and convert to
the new look.
