Dave Burton gets his Elise Rebuilt

This is Dave's account of the full rebuild, including the images of the rebuild and the impact area. Click any image to get a closer look.

The situation with the rebuild is quite simple. I had my Elise for two days. On my way home from work I had an accident. It was wet and as I came off a round-about, 90 degree left, I started to accelerate and must of hit some diesel or something. The car 180'd, went up the curb and into a lamp post (drivers door). My head struck the cant rail (roof support), the car did another 180 degrees and was now facing in the right direction. I ended up hitting a fence and munching the front clam. The chassis split at the door hinge area and therefore required replacement.

The car had an entire rebuild around a brand new chassis. All the original running gear was retained. The car had a new front clam, drivers door and glass, and other bits and pieces. All in all, the work was about £13,500. I have the car back now and use it every day. The car was rebuilt by Christopher Neil in Cheshire, a Lotus specialist and TVR main dealer (you can probably tell by the photos!).

New chassis with running gear fitted. Note the primed sills which are ready fitted to the tub. The dash, window frame, roll bar and front crash structure come as part of the chassis known as partial body assembly.

Here's a view of the chassis from inside. If you look to the middle of the image by the door opening you can see the split in the chassis!
