Is this the cheapest interior upgrade?
Way
back last year I was talking to Adil on the Welsh Chapter run, he
showed me around his S1 Elise, kitted out with gear change indicator.
He also showed me probably the simplest interior upgrade, you've
probably considered all the extra trim like window winders and
switchgear, well, how about the gear stick?
I'm not personally a fan of going too far with changing from the manufacturers designs, but I also like race spec style trims, like the amazing Esprit Sport 350, plenty of cut and polished aluminum.
The upgrade if you like, is the gear stick covering. The standard S1 comes with heat shrunk black plastic around the main stick below the knob. Adil explained how he simply removed the plastic to uncover the metal stick ready for polishing. To get the same results as shown in the pictures, you'll need :
- Some metal polish (Brasso?)
- Soft cloth for polishing
- Sharp implement, knife
- About 10-30 minutes
And
to do it...
- Unscrew the knob off the top of the gear stick.
- Remove plastic coating with something sharp like a knife or scissors, being careful not to scratch the metal underneath, may be starting at the bottom or top under the knob.
- Once removed simply follow the instructions on the metal polish tin and clean up the metal stick until it shines to your liking.
- Replace the knob onto the stick
Enjoy your cheap cost, expensive looking, new race spec interior! A big thank you to Adil for supplying the photo.
