Welcome to Southrun Two. This run, starting from
Cheltenham should take us as far as Stratford-on-Avon through some excellent country side
through the Cotswolds. It is to take place on Sunday, 29th October 2000 meeting at 11a.m.
This run has been planned by
Elan owner, Craig Tomes who knows the area well enough to give us a good day out. The
starting point is just south of Cheltenham with easy access from the M5. The meeting will
start at a large lay-by on the A436 just after you cross over the A435 as shown on the
map. If you are coming from East of
Swindon travel West on the M4 to Junction 15 and use the A417
through Cirencester and continue until you reach the A436. From Wales travel East on the
M4 until Junction 20 and then go North up the M5 to Junction 11A and travel east on the
A417 and on to the A436 to the lay-by. For Bristol and the West of England, make your way
to the M5 and travel North, then following instructions as per the Wales route. From the
North of Cheltenham, make your way to the M5 and travel South until you reach Junction 11A
and travel east down the A417 and onto the A436 to the lay-by.
The route can be discussed on the day between everyone, we suggest
you bring a map with you. Craig Tomes has supplied us with these details for the route.
The route is fairly flexible at this stage,
but will go something like
this :
Start - Cheltenham - Lay-by on the A436 (see above for details) onto
Stratford-on-Avon
Moreton-in-Marsh
Broadway Tower Country Park (Book with us, Menu Here -
plenty of parking and great views from here on a nice day)
Stow-on-the-wold
Bourton-on-Water
Burford
Bibury
Cirencester
Cheltenham
Approx 110 miles total.
This takes in most of the nicest areas in the Cotswolds - we could stretch further south
still from Cirencester i.e. towards Bath and so on but I think by the time we have stopped
at a few places on the way it will probably be far enough. Cheltenham to Stratford and
back down to Broadway for lunch is about an hours drive - and with a stop I would guess we
could get there for 12:30 to 1:00 ish ? The run will finish sometime 4:00 to 5:00 ish I
guess.
See you there!
Craig D.
