Southrun Haunted
Gloucestershire

downhill bit until we reach the fantastic Woodchester Mansion. For those of you who are fan's of Living TV's Most Haunted, this is the mansion featured on their recent Most Haunted Live show. The mansion was an extension to an older building, but for many reasons was unfinished and fell into disrepair. It is currently being restored to it's unfinished state by the Woodchester Mansion Trust and all money raised through our run will go towards this fantastic place. You can visit the Woodchester Mansion web site (also under construction!) at http://www.woodchestermansion.org.uk

When we arrive at the mansion property, we will be able to park in the top car park. From there you can either take a minibus ride down to the mansion or if you prefer, a pleasant 1 mile walk. There are a limited 10 car spaces outside the mansion and 10 lucky cars will get to drive down for a photo shoot. On arrival at the mansion itself, we will have a guided tour by one of the mansion's volunteer historians explaining the story of the mansion, and after we have booked the main room with a log fire where you will be able to eat and drink. You will need to supply your own food and drink as facilities at the mansion are very limited, but wine glasses and coffee cups will be made available.

To cover the cost of the tour guides and the booking of the mansion, there is a cost of £10 per person. If you wish to reserve a space you can do so at the bottom of this page by entering your details, I will then e-mail you back with some details. I would appreciate payments in advance if possible as a deposit has been left with the Trust and the mansion has been reserved for us. All money goes directly to the mansion trust.

Before you do anything, please read the following and help keep Southrun safe.

  • You attend Southrun at your own risk. Please ensure your car is road worthy and you are fully taxed and MOT'd.

  • Please obey the speed limit. Everyone drove well last time, please can we continue with making this a run in the car, and not a race.

  • The route is there for a guide to the destinations, which way you go is entirely up to you. We are not organising a convoy. Southrun is not timed or a race. Make sure you check all your insurance policy details.

  • Please take extra special driving care around all area's, but especially around built up areas. 30 in the 30 zones, and respect other drivers on the road, even if they are at fault.

  • If you get stopped by the police, please do not mention Southrun, as we cannot help in these situations.

  • Don't tail gate, especially your Lotus mates! Drive to your ability, don't take chances. If you are involved in a knock, bump, crash, do the right thing. It's rare but can happen.

  • Woodchester Masion is run by Woodchester Mansion Trust Ltd, all money paid for this event will go directly to the Trust.

What to take with you

  • The route and a map

  • A passenger to help you with the directions

  • Petrol, money, warm clothing, plenty of food and drink for after the tour, a freezer bag for your food and drink.

Weather

The super long range forecast so far shows sunny spells for the day, but as there is still a while to go, this could be inaccurate. Southrun will go ahread what ever the weather unless of course it is extreme such as snow, high winds or black ice. In the event of a cancelled event, I will return all money and endeavor to contact everyone as soon as possible.

The Haunting FAQ

Q. Is it really scary at the mansion?
A. Depends how you define scary, I'd certainly think twice about camping there at night.

Q. Can I stay longer/overnight?
A. The mansion has no bedrooms to stay in as such, but I imagine the Trust may allow it if you asked, we have only booked late afternoon/early evening, if you want to try and stay longer, try calling Wendy at the trust on 01453 750 455

Q. Will I need to wear any special clothing?
A. Prepare with warm clothing, the mansion is a cold place, even with the log fire. Also bring suitable footwear as the flooring even inside the mansion is very rough. In many places you'll be standing on the roof of the room below!

Q. Are there any S9 t-shirts or merchandise?
A. I have stopped doing the t-shirts due to supplier problems and costs.

Q. Has anything strange or paranormal happened during the build up to Southrun?
A. Yes, a couple of strange things have already happened during the planning of the route, we'll put it down to co-incidence for now.

Q. Can I run around in a white sheet making "Whoooohhh" noises?
A. I wouldn't recommend running about as you'll probably trip and end up on the floor, and you'll be entering the place at your own risk, but if you want to dress in a white sheet and go, "Whoooh" feel free.

Q. Where is the preview video?
A. http://www.southrun.co.uk/video/southrunhaunted.avi it's approx. 1.5Mb and required DIVX 5 drivers for your play back software if you do not have it.
