Hi, I'm in the market for an S2 and can't decide on either a K-series s or whether to spend the extra on the r? 75% of the time I'm going to use it for a 80mile roundtrip commute to work, the rest of the time it'll be on weekend fun runs and the track. I'm thinking the r will be more reliable/quieter/more economical? Plus I'm worried by reports of the gasket problem with the K-series?
Advice much apprecited?
Thanks,
John

I have just bought a 111r and loving every minute of driving it. I used to own an S1 with the K series, i never had any trouble with that engine, but have to say the 5 speed rover box is pretty awful. I believe the S2 with the K series has the same 5 speed box, the 6 speeder in the 111r is far nicer.

I use my 111r every day and it refined enough for my needs, also drove to Le Mans this year it was fine on the motorways (more fun round the lanes though)

I think the main thing you have to think about is the need to really rev the 111r to get the performance out of it, where as the 111s will be more tourqey. Guess it depends on your driving stlye!?!?

Thanks Paul, I appreciate your advice. I'm more of a torque man (I've got a 330d so got used to it as well). I want something different though and guess a high revving engine is going to suit the elise better.

What's the cabin noise like? I've got 40miles of average 50mph so am wondering if that's going to p**s me off!
Cheers,
John

I've been asking the same question and have decided to go with an R, especially after test driving one...

I've read all over that the big difference, other than the engine, is the ride: huge praise for the R, less so for the S. I own an S and the ride is quite hard. Is the R's really that much better?

I know it's an old chat but I've test driven the 111S and the 111R. I have to say being an ex supersport 400 bike racer the R was much more of a thrill. The R gear box is superp as well and really complements the Toyota engine. To be honnest I was looking at purchasing the S but changed my mind after driving the R; I pick up an R next week and can't wait.
